McELHATTAN – The Clinton County Prison Board plans to interview four applicants in the quest for a new warden at the county correctional facility.

County commissioner/acting prison board chairman Joel Long said the board held an executive session Monday afternoon to review the qualifications of the 12 applicants for the post left vacant when warden Jackie Motter and deputy warden Wayne Bechdel were let go last month.

Long said the prison board’s six members reviewed the applications/resumes prior to the meeting and after discussion it was agreed that four candidates would be contacted for interviews over the next week.

The names of the finalists will not be released, Long said, as “we do not want to jeopardize their current employment.” Those interviews will not be public but Long said the board vote on a new warden will be done publicly.

County commissioner Jeff Snyder has been serving as the interim warden while the search for Motter’s replacement is carried out. The county commissioners have indicated they would like to have a new hire by the end of this month.

$59,123 is the posted salary for the position, but the commissioners said that amount is negotiable. Motter was making $74,000 a year at the time of her termination.
