LOCK HAVEN – City and County officials converged on the scene of East Main Street, between Henderson and Hanna Streets to invesitgate an abandoned plastic chemical container that had been wedged underneath a parked vehicle after falling from a passing truck.

Apparently, several containers had fallen from a truck belonging to a Mill Hall tree trimming firm. Occupants of the truck stopped and picked up the containers, missing the the one container causing the concern. The City police and fire department responded to the call to contain the event.

The County HAZMAT team was called to the scene to deal with the situation by safely testing and determining the public risk the container posed. Fortunately, the container was mostly empty and had contained a small amount of a commonly used pesticide, although the substance in question was mostly water.

HAZMAT team member, Robert Moore was suited up to inspect and collect samples from the container. Then Bill Frantz, Clinton County Emergency Management Coordinator, conducted the preliminary chemical test on scene assisted by Bob Neff, Lock Haven Fire Chief.

Traffic on Main Street in both directions between Henderson and Hanna was re-directed for the duration of the process.

There were no injuries and there has not been any significant property damage reported as a result of the event, thus far.
