Encie A. Swinehart

Encie A. Swinehart, 91, formerly of Chatham Village, McElhattan, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Jersey Shore Manor Care.

She was born in Avis on August 3, 1923, the daughter of the late Clay A. and Marcella Boyer Shope.

Encie was a 1941graduate of Avis High School.

She worked as a Nurses Aid at Lock Haven High School until her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore and had also attended McElhattan United Methodist Church.

Encie was a member of the Amaranth Tiadaghton Court No. 196 and the American Legion of Avis.

She enjoyed sewing and needlepointing as well as going for walks.  Encie also adored her teacup poodle, Taz.

Encie is survived by a daughter, Maryann Corpe of McElhattan; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Joseph Swinehart, Jr.; three brothers, Bryson A., Gerald E., and Melvin “Pee Wee” Shope; a son, Emerson “Joe” Swinehart, III; a daughter, Karen L. Gummo; and a granddaughter, Debra K. Ergott.

A funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745 with Rev. Bruce Wallace officiating. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Jersey Shore Manor Care Activity Fund.
